OSP Gold Medals Criteria

Approved received criteria for OSP (Award 2006) Presidential Gold Medals

Ramzna Ali Syed Gold Medal
  • The nominee should be a regular active member of OSP in good standing for at least 15 uninterrupted years. He should also be a member \ fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology. 20 Marks
  • He should have regularly attended at least 14 national and 10 international ophthalmological conferences and should have contributed to its scientific sessions by presenting acceptable scientific / clinical papers as principal author. (Ten for attendance and ten for scientific contributions) 20 Marks
  • He should be an outstanding teacher in Ophthalmology for 15 years with deep interest in teaching, training, evaluation, service delivery and research. He should have authored at least 14 original scientific papers published in indexed national or international ophthalmic medical journals (seven as principal author and seven as co author) or should have authored a book on ophthalmology or contributed to chapters in three books on ophthalmology.
  • He should be a man of high intellectual calibre with meritorious personal academic and professional record. He should have distinguished himself by making outstanding contributions to the cause of ophthalmology and eye care in Pakistan. 20 Marks
  • He should have a clear record of good moral standing and high professional and ethical conduct. He should not have any ill reputation for malpractices and should neither have been convicted nor ever found guilty of an immoral, criminal or professional misconduct by any court or any officially appointed investigating body. 20 Marks
Noval Christy Gold Medal
  • The nominee should be a member of OSP (any category). He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology and eye care. 20 Marks
  • He should have regularly attended at least ten national Ophthalmological conferences and should have contributed to its scientific sessions by presenting acceptable scientific / clinical papers as senior author. (Five for attendance and five for scientific contributions) 20 Marks
  • He should be an outstanding teacher in Ophthalmology and / or eye care, for at least 10 years with deep interest in teaching, training, evaluation, service delivery and research. He should have authored at least 10 original scientific papers published in indexed national or international ophthalmic medical journals (five as principal author and five as co author.) or should have authored a book on ophthalmology and / or eye care or contributed chapters to two books on ophthalmology and eye care. 20 Marks
  • He should be a man of high intellectual calibre with meritorious academic and professional record and a history of dedicated and commendable social service to his credit. More over, he should have distinguished himself by making outstanding contributions to promotion of ophthalmology and eye care in Pakistan. 20 Marks
  • He should have a clear record of good moral standing and high professional and ethical conduct. He should not have any ill reputation for malpractices and should neither have been convicted nor ever found guilty of an immoral, criminal or professional misconduct by any court or any officially appointed investing body. 20 Marks
OSP Mohammad Latif chaudhry gold medal for significant contributions
to
Vitreo- Retinal subspecialty in Pakistan
  • The nominee should be a regular member of OSP for at least 15 years. He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology.20 Marks
  • He should have created an excellent enabling environment with strong national, regional and global linkages for Residents / Fellows to enhance their skills and understanding in the management of V.R diseases. 20 Marks
  • He should have supervised / tutored / evaluated in exit exams. at least 15 Residents / Fellows with special focus on V.R diseases. 20 Marks
  • He should have presented at least 20 papers related to V.R diseases in various national and international conferences. 20 Marks
  • He should have published at least 10 papers in national or international indexed ophthalmic journals, five as principal author and five as co author or written a book or chapters in two books on subjects related to vitreo-retinal diseases. 20 Marks
OSP Ghulam Qadir Kazi gold medal for significant contributions to
pediatric ophthalmology in Pakistan
  • The nominee should be a regular member of OSP for at least 15 years. He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology.20 Marks
  • He should have created an excellent enabling environment for Residents / Fellows with strong national, regional and global linkages to enhance their skills and understanding in the management of childhood eye diseases. 20 Marks
  • He should have supervised / tutored / evaluated in exit exams. at least 15 Residents / Fellows with special focus on pediatric eye diseases. 20 Marks
  • He should have presented at least 20 papers related to pediatric ophthalmology in various national and international conferences.20 Marks
  • He should have published at least 10 papers in national or international indexed ophthalmic journals, five as principal author and five as co author or written a book or chapters in two books on subjects related to pediatric ophthalmology.20 Marks
OSP Raja Mumtaz gold medal for significant contributions to
ophthalmic education in Pakistan
  • The nominee should be a regular member of OSP for at least 15 years. He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology.20 Marks
  • He should have created an excellent enabling environment with strong national, regional and global linkages for Residents / Fellows to learn the art and science of comprehensive / sub specialty based ophthalmology. 20 Marks
  • He should have supervised / tutored / evaluated in exit exams. at least 40 Residents / Fellows in comprehensive / sub specialty based ophthalmology. 20 Marks
  • He should have presented at least 20 papers related to ophthalmology or ophthalmic teaching, training and evaluation in various national and international conferences.20 Marks
  • He should have published at least 10 papers in national or international indexed ophthalmic journals, five as principal author and five as co author or written a book or chapters in two books on subjects related to ophthalmology ophthalmic teaching, training and evaluation.20 Marks
OSP Mohammad Daud Khan gold medal for significant contributions to
ophthalmic research and development in Pakistan
  • The nominee should be a regular member of OSP for at least 15 years. He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology.20 Marks
  • He should have created an excellent enabling environment at national level with strong regional and global linkages for Residents / Fellows to learn the art and science of research in comprehensive / sub specialty based ophthalmology including community ophthalmology and eye care delivery. 20 Marks
  • He should have supervised / tutored / evaluated in exit exams. at least 50 Residents / Fellows / Masters and Doctoral students in comprehensive / sub specialty based ophthalmology including community ophthalmology. 20 Marks
  • He should have presented at least 60 papers on subjects related to ophthalmology including eye care delivery and ophthalmic teaching, training evaluation and research in various national and international conferences.20 Marks
  • He should have published at least 60 papers in national or international indexed ophthalmic journals, one fourth as principal author and the remaining as co author or written a book or chapters in two books on subjects related to research in comprehensive ophthalmology including all subspecialties and ophthalmic teaching, training, evaluation and research. He should also be on the editorial board of at least three national or international medical journals.20 Marks
OSP Mukhtar Ahmad gold medal for making significant contributions to
promotion of Ethics and Professionalism in the practice of art
and science of ophthalmology in Pakistan
  • The nominee should be a regular member of OSP for at least 15 years. He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology.20 Marks
  • He should be a well known ophthalmologist with country wide reputation for his knowledge, skills and ethical and professional values. 20 Marks
  • He should be a well known teacher in ophthalmology with a country wide reputation for his innovative style in transferring knowledge, skills and with very strong emphasis on moral, professional and ethical values. 20 Marks
  • He should be renowned research scholar with a reputation for his adherence to professional and ethical values.20 Marks
  • He should be a strong national, regional and global advocate for including moral, professional and ethical values to the medical curriculum at under graduate and post graduate levels in all disciplines of modern medicine and surgery. He should also be a strong advocate for cultivation and adherence to such values in clinical and surgical practice as well as research matters.20 Marks
OSP PICO gold medal for community eye health
  • The nominee should preferably be a member of Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan (any category). He should also be a member / fellow of at least three more national or international organisations related to ophthalmology or eye care.20 Marks
  • He should preferably have a postgraduate diploma or degree in public health ophthalmology. 20 Marks
  • He should have made significant contributions to teaching, training and research in community eye health at national, regional and global level. 20 Marks
  • He should be a strong advocate and should have played an outstanding role in ensuring excellence and equity in eye care by promoting public health awareness and strengthening comprehensive eye care services at primary, 2rh eye and tertiary levels.20 Marks
  • He should have played a significant advocacy role in promoting community eye health leading to sustainable comprehensive eye care systems for all but with very special focus on the marginalized groups of the society.20 Marks
